Once above 160 degrees, turn the idle speed screw so that the idle is about 50 RPM below your target idle speed set in step 1, above. Um, no. That could be a problem with the TPS or it could be some sort of throttle linkage issue. But now that Terminator X is available, I highly recommend going that route. The learn function will offset the base fuel table until the closed-loop compensation only requires minimal changes. Remember that as an EFI System Pro customer you have access to me at any time via my cell phone. Last night I tried setting the IAC and had the same problems after it's warmed up. Another suggestion is to add an extra turn to the spring built into the linkage to increase the closing force on the throttle shaft. I had HIGH Idle issue and fixing this curve FIXED the ISSUE --- THANK YOUCan you explain what "Current Learn % means, after finally fixing the idle problem this % jump from -1 to -30% in about 5 minutes at idle with CTS @ about 170.Also when starting the car at hot the engine goes to about 2300+ RPM for a few seconds then crashes down to my Hot idle speed of 950 -- bounces a little and then smooths out. I have been able to get it pretty 30 minutes later CTS reads 161, start engine Idle is jumping from 450 (almost stall) to 1500, IAC is jumping all over 10 90. What is it supppse to be at idle and while driving under heavy acceleration? Also what would you say a desired idle should be for a 3 speed automatic ford? It is always best to get the base map as close as possible before adding acceleration enrichment. I have probably 200 - 300 miles on this engine and it has always done this. This software is going to allow you to open both the configuration file and the datalogs that you create, overlay them and you can get a much better idea of what is happening. 90% of time with engine hot. Your AFR is pegged lean. Definitely would have went with you guys. It'll start & run till it's warm, then when I try setting the IAC every time, I try getting it between the 2 & 8% it quits. normal city driving, I no longer have other problems I had with the original I very pleased with the performance, it is a huge improvement from the 800CFM carb I had on this motor. We will definitely be sticking with Holley from here on out for future retro-fits. I installed a Holley Sniper on my Ford Maverick 302 V8. Any ideas here? Great work, expert! It won't take much! Earl's Mechanical Fuel Pressure GaugeI could use that for a quick troubleshooting for 1/3rd the cost of the Holley one. As I said I didn't buy from you so you don't owe me anything. I recently had IAC issues identical to what you describe. I do know that the reference angle is 57.5, the inductive delay says 100.0. I'm happy to walk you through what is required. And the rather cavalier "Absolutely!" The problem was RF interferance . Going lower with the blanking might pay dividends, but there is so little room below 7/8 that you will quickly be in a range where every tiny variation in the TPS or MAP is throwing extra fuel into the engine. But another thing to consider is adjusting your target A/F ratio. Any suggestions? I've made all the adjustments, all the settings, and the IAC issue is driving me crazy. When I cover it with my hands, it gets quieter. It didnt do this with the carb on it. What could be the cause? The engine runs beautifully, with perfect idle at 650 RPM, but every now and then I hear the IAC give a sort of "snap" and the idle is at 1200 RPM. I have an entire article on choosing between Sniper and Terminator X throttle body solutions and while Sniper is still a sound choice for some applications, Terminator X (with transmission control) is hands-down the way to go for those who need that. I figured out I was going the wrong direction when I was messing with the AFR programming. I'll give the ". Lubricate the linkage so there isn't as much native resistance. Even 50 RPM can make a difference in how much impact the transition to Drive has on the idling engine's ability to stay at a fixed RPM.I would not recommend it in this situation but anytime a "kick" in idle speed is desired that is easily done by setting the kick value in Tuning > Advanced > Adv. The engine has 14: 1 compression ratio, we can not use gasoline. It will learn the fueling eventually either way, it's just that one might get you there a little faster. If the idle is fine at start-up but then increases after you depress the throttle then you might need to lower your IAC Hold Position a bit. If you have performed the adjustments above and still have RPM issues, it's time to look for clues. Then Friday night as I was driving home, the car started acting up. It is a common one. I'm thinking it could be the fuel pressure--- since I have a new Spectra EFI tank and there's been some reports of the interior coating coming off and gumming up the pump however the sniper display DOES NOT show fuel pressure.the Sniper DOES measure fuel pressure on its own - i've confirmed that with holley techs as they told me to purchase the fuel pressure gauge that can just hook up to the 1 wire gauge harness from the Sniper. technical rep said "You ahve high fuel pressure". When the secondary throttle blades are centered in their bores and pivot freely, an additional return spring is not necessary. I'm wonder if the iac can cause this. Second, Holley just released over the weekend a video on how to implement a flex fuel sensor on their HP and Dominator ECU's. I had this same exact issue. Then follow all of the instructions above, including confirming the idle speed curve setting at -40 degress as well as following my 10-step process for setting the idle. Full product line and accessories at excellent pricing. Throttle body mounted ECU - no extra boxes to mount. Hope this helps! Strangely, what I've seen is that it idles too lean as the injectors are effectively shut off. Thanks again for the follow-up and glad to hear that everything is working well now. What must remain foremost in your mind is that the only thing that can cause the idle to increase is additional air getting into the engine. If I go any more it will ping. Also ensure the TPS Position returns to zero at idle, & the IAC Hold Position isn't setup too high. So something is triggering the ECU to be in Open Loop. Don't try to correct for the fuel. They tell you to ask call Holley. Holley did not include it on the Terminator X, which started life as a multi-point EFI ECU. If that tested out okay then I can really guess that there might be some sort of intermittent, temporary RFI. If the issue persists, you may need to replace the IAC. I know its not flooded because I can pour a little gas in the throttle body and play with the accelerator and it will start and run fine. :-). Sometimes an engine can produce enough vacuum to pull the secondaries open slightly. :-) Just don't let the parts go flying. If you set the RPM above idle to start ramp too high, then it may not ever get down to the RPM above idle to re-enable. Thanks again Chris, your help has been invaluable. If anyone is considering going EFI, Chris is the man to chat with. On EFI systems such as Holley's Sniper, all of the EFI sensors (except for the O2 and coolant temperature sender) are mounted snuggly in the throttle body. Relatively new Sniper EFI install on a '69 Mustang 302. But, if the idle is so high that it is making you crazy then you might try dropping that number just a bit. You can disable the idle spark control at the locations below. I'll have to check again tomorrow. have noticed on the hand held is that Air/fuel Ratio rises to 20 +/- A/F and the Resistance results in heat and heat results in more resistance. Cheers Darren. I hope everyone enjoys this v. mean that the IAC is causing it. Since it is unlikely that anything else changed it is most likely the IAC is problematic or the butterflies are not shut all the way. I think you will find that it will learn its way through this. So the issue Im having is low idle. when things aren't working and this provides just that. After the start process, If the idle speed is higher than the target idle then the IAC should begin closing as long as the TPS is below 2%. It meets the target idle perfectly in either but if I lightly stab the throttle it tries to stall after slightly revving. Idle was back to normal but iac was at 0. It is working fine when you restart the car, controlling idle perfectly at 8 steps open so it is unlikely to fail when the car warms up--or correct itself instantly when you restart it..So, if you don't have any vacuum leak, and the throttle plates are fully closed, the only thing I can guess is something is causing your ignition timing to change. Though it started and ran good, it was dumping fuel and would not lean out to AFR set points. Any help would b great. When I covered the IAC with my finger, the RPM dropped so low it stalled. Then why don't you Get On The List for Emails Straight From Our Pro? But I can tell you that for most people who try this it introduces so much RFI onto the Sniper that it never works right. Now, 1% on the TPS isn't a problem, but when it goes to 2% (which is inevitable if you have RFI moving it to 1%) then the IAC is going to go to it's hold position (30% by default) and the engine is going to rev up. If you've been running a filter then you have to wonder if you have a legitimate Walbro pump.If you install a new pump and the noise is still coming from the Sniper EFI System then only the dealer who sold you your system can help you. It's pretty hard to get the header tubes glowing at idle with a lean AFR. Holly offers a very nice Analog-Style Fuel Pressure Gauge that is another option. would correct it (as it has for a multitude of other drive-ability issues) but this one little glitch seems out of it's range. The person I bought it from said he never could get it to run for more than a few seconds. That will at least tell you something. Even though the Sniper's fuel map is programmed to provide the correct amount of fuel via injectors spraying at 60 PSI, if the pressure is jacked up to 90 PSI the wideband sees that you are rich and faster than you can even detect it audibly lowers the duty cycle to inject the correct amount of fuel. If I read it correctly, the solution from the other thread seemed to fix a constant 300 or so RPM increase. What might cause the TPS to go to 2%? I think in some of the Wizards with the handheld it doesn't use 57.5 as the default. Ensure that the secondary linkage is completely closed (both visually and manually.). If you go too low then it may stumble or even stall when coming off of throttle. This increased idle speed is triggered by grounding the orange wire in the 10-pin I/O harness. If you are idling at 2100 RPM (based on a default IAC Hold position of 30%) and your target idle speed is 900, then the ECU is not going to try to idle down. School's out for spring break this week though so I'm covering for employees on vacation. Usually it wont stay on 0% very long and soon changes to another number like 1 or 2%.
